The Future Leaders Project commits to protect and respect your privacy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws.

Who Are We
The Future Leaders Project is a global learning initiative designed to empower youth aged 15–26, parents, educators, and local leaders in over 10,000 cities. Our work is facilitated through a partnership between EARTHwise Centre (Mauritius), Living Cities Earth CIC (UK), and YouthxYouth, with strategic support from a global community of allies and educators.

 

What Personal Data We Collect
We collect the following types of information:

  • Identity Information: Name, age, country of residence, and profile photo (if submitted).
  • Contact Information: Email address, phone number, and social media (if you connect via those).
  • Program Data: Registration details, workshop and session attendance, and submitted assignments or reflections.
  • Parental/Educator Data: For those registering learners under 18 or participating in parallel training modules.
  • Technical Information: IP address, browser type, device information, and interaction data through cookies (see Section 7).
  • Media & Consent: Optional media submissions (photos/videos), and consents for their use.
  • We do not collect sensitive personal data (e.g., ethnicity, religious beliefs, or biometric data) unless explicitly required and with separate, informed consent.

 

How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to:

  • Register and support your participation in FLP and related offerings (e.g., Questlands, parent/educator tracks).
  • Track and improve the quality of our programs through analytics, user feedback, and iterative design.
  • Send relevant updates, materials, reminders, and opportunities aligned with your engagement level.
  • Fulfil legal and safeguarding obligations, particularly for minors and vulnerable participants.
  • Provide certificates of completion and recommendation letters (on request or program completion).

We never sell, lease, or trade your personal data.

 

Lawful Basis for Processing
We process your personal data under the following lawful bases:

  • Consent: For newsletter signups, media participation, and optional community profiles.
  • Contractual Necessity: For fulfilling program delivery based on your registration.
  • Legitimate Interest: For improving program outcomes, maintaining security, and community support.
  • Legal Obligation: For safeguarding and age-verification purposes, where applicable.

 

Who Has Access to Your Data
Access is strictly limited to:

  • Internal FLP program team and approved facilitators.
  • Partner organizations (e.g., EARTHwise Centre, YouthxYouth, Living Cities Earth) for relevant learning engagement and safeguarding.
  • Service providers (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace, Airtable) acting as Data Processors under strict data processing agreements.

All parties are contractually bound to uphold confidentiality and data protection standards aligned with GDPR.

 

Data Storage and Retention
Data is stored securely on GDPR-compliant cloud platforms (e.g., EU-based servers, or providers with EU-US Data Privacy Framework certifications).

We retain data only as long as necessary for the original purpose or program lifecycle, with regular reviews and deletion of inactive accounts or unused data.

You may request deletion at any time (see Section 8).

 

Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:

  • Enhance site functionality and performance.
  • Track learning engagement anonymously.
  • Provide analytics for improving user experience.
  • You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Essential cookies are required for basic site functionality.

Children’s Privacy and Safeguarding
We take safeguarding seriously. For participants under 18:

  • Parental/guardian consent is required for registration.
  • Media, engagement, and communications are carefully moderated.
  • FLP staff receive training in child safeguarding and data protection.

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without verified parental consent.

 

International Data Transfers
Where data is transferred outside the EEA (e.g., for collaboration with partners in Mauritius or the US), we ensure:

Adequate safeguards via Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)

Only reputable, secure third-party platforms are used

Transparency and accountability with respect to data transfers
